The matches against Lostock Hall Black are always very competitive affairs and this match was no different. The game was played in very cold conditions and on a pitch that had clearly seen better days!

It was Bamber Bridge, who started the brighter of the two teams and so nearly took the lead early on, when a superb run down the right flank saw Charlie’s cross find Noah, whose first time volley grazed the right hand upright. However, it was Lostock Hall who edged in front after 5 minutes when a corner was flicked in at the near post by their striker from 5 yards giving Ben no chance!

Bamber Bridge, however are a team full of spirit and took the game to Lostock Hall. When Taylor’s throw in was flicked on by Callum, Lucas’ left footed drive was tipped past the post by the keeper. Bamber Bridge were clearly trying to get back into the match and when Isaac hit a thunderous strike from 40 yards, it seemed that the ball would hit the back of the net only for the goalkeeper to tip the ball onto the crossbar and to safety.

It was all Bamber Bridge; when Callum found Taylor 15 yards from goal on the right hand side of the penalty box, only a fingertip save by the keeper prevented a deserved equalizer.

Lostock Hall, however, nearly increased their lead when a stunning left footed strike from the edge of the box by their striker hit the post and rebounded to safety. They were at it again and it so could easily have been 2-0 when following a quick counter attack down the Bamber Bridge right led to a shot flying past the left hand post.

The game was being played at a frantic pace and when Taylor sent Sarah through on the right hand side, it was only the outstretched leg of the defender that prevented the equaliser. It was however, to prove the catalyst for Bamber Bridge to continue to force the tempo and put the Lostock Hall defenders under constant pressure. Following a corner driven in at pace by Isaac, Sarah’s flicked ball fell to Callum who drove the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.

The game was end to end and with both teams trying to find the goal that would give them the edge in a very tight match. The referee blew the half time whistle in what was a fiercely competitive game.

Half Time Lostock Hall Black 1 v Bamber Bridge 1

It was a very close and competitive game as usual between these two sides with no quarter given on either side. The game changed however when a wonderful through ball from Noah, sent Callum galloping through the middle, his pace and skills saw him lose the defender and round the keeper before being completely upended in what was a clear foul. Callum would have had a tap in into an empty goal but Bamber Bridge had to make do with a free kick on the edge of the box! Justice was done, however, when Noah’s superb strike found the bottom right hand of the goal with the keeper stranded.

The goal seemed however to inspire Lostock Hall and they would have equalised but for an incredible clearance from Marcus off the line from a chipped ball by their striker over Ben!

Bamber Bridge kept coming forward and Sarah came so close to extending the lead when she met a corner from Lucas but her header flew just past the right hand post. Noah, who was finding more space as the game went on, drove a wonderful shot just over the bar. It was one way traffic and Callum who was causing havoc amongst the Lostock Hall back line found space on the left, his quick feet led to him being fouled inside the box to give Bamber Bridge a penalty. Sarah stepped up and duly despatched the penalty kick into the bottom right of the goal to increase the lead to a deserved 3-1 with just 10 minutes left.

It was no more than the team deserved and when Lucas found Callum in the penalty box a minute later, it was placed beautifully into the roof of the net, for his second and Bamber Bridge’s 4th. Not satisfied with that Bamber Bridge were now pouring forward against a beleaguered Lostock defence and following a foul on the edge of the box, Lucas hit a wonderful free kick into the right hand corner of the goal to give the team an emphatic and well deserved victory.

An excellent performance from a team increasing in confidence game after game and one against one of the top sides in the league.
