Match: Bamber Bridge V Cadley Red
Date: 12th March 2017, 11 am Kick-off
This week Bamber Bridge welcomed Cadley Red to Woodlea in what was a return of the thrilling encounter played at Fulwood last month. The pitch was in relatively good shape despite the weather during the week and the conditions were mild and dry, which made a nice change.
Bamber Bridge started the game on the front foot and nearly opened the scoring within 60 seconds when a long through ball from Marcus sent Callum racing down the right wing; he cut in past the defender however, the keeper saved his shot to his left. It was a frantic start and a minute later Marcus again found Callum and although his initial shot, was parried by the keeper it came, straight back to him and within a flash he buried it into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 to Bamber Bridge.
It was a super quick start from the team and it was nearly two on the next attack when Taylor’s cross was met by Callum’s head, which beat the keeper but found the side netting. Bamber Bridge were dictating the pace and when Taylor slipped in Callum his shot was saved by the keeper but the rebound found Noah who drilled the ball home into the bottom left hand corner to make it 2-0 within the first 5 minutes.
Cadley were shell shocked but following a long punt by their defender the striker suddenly found himself ahead of the defenders but blazed his shot high and wide. It was a warning however to Bamber Bridge that their strikers pace needed to be taken into account especially as the team pushed forward.
The team looked dangerous every time they came forward and when Noah’s shot was deflected into the path of Taylor it looked as if it would be number 3 but her shot dipped just over the bar. The next attack however proved to be the moment of the match when Jay sent Noah down the left, his superb run and cross was met by Charlie coming in from the right and his bullet header was nestling in the corner of the net within seconds, giving the keeper no chance whatsoever. It was brilliant stuff from Noah and Charlie and the team continued to use the wingers to stretch the Cadley defenders all over the place.
Another mazy run from Charlie two minutes later saw the ball being deflected for a corner and from the subsequent kick superbly swung in by Lucas; Callum darted away from the defender and headed the ball down into the bottom of the goal to make it 4-0. Another brilliant piece of finishing from the striker.
Cadley appeared dazed but another ball over the top sent their striker in on goal but his thunderous drive was superbly saved by Ben to his right; in the next attack they nearly found a way back into the game but the strikers drive fizzed past the right hand upright.
Half Time – Bamber Bridge 4 v Cadley Red 0
It had been a scintillating first half performance from Bamber Bridge and it would be clearly very hard for the team to maintain their high tempo game, (which had been so prevalent in the first half), for the entire match.
It was indeed Cadley who nearly pulled one back at the start of the second half but Ben managed to make a superb double save by diving to his left ht to parry a shot from the right hand corner of the penalty box and then saving the rebound from a shot only 5 yards out!
It was, however Bamber Bridge who nearly extended their lead when Callum’s shot was blocked by the defender fell to Sarah it seemed like number five, yet her shot went agonisingly passed the left hand post with the keeper rooted to the spot.
The game was far more open now and Cadley broke through again when a long ball over the top found their striker but his shot was superbly tipped around the left hand post by Ben. He needed to be at this best again a minute later when he had to gather at the feet of their oncoming striker and then tipped over a shot from just outside the box.
The defence of Marcus, Isaac and Lucas were being pushed further and further back as Cadley strove to get a foothold in the game but when Lucas intercepted a pass in his own half and went on a mazy run down the Cadley right it looked as if he had led the classic counter attack but his shot flew past the left hand upright to safety.
Sarah who was suddenly finding pockets of space behind Callum latched on to a mishit pass and thundered a shot which cannoned off the left hand post to safety; she then sent Lucas away down the left but his shot hit the side netting and then her shot from distance flew past the right hand upright!
The game was going from end to end and as defences tired, Cadley were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box; their striker curled a wonderful shot, which hit the bar but was subsequently tapped in by their winger to reduce the arrears to 4-1.
Bamber Bridge, however threatened again on their next attack and great play from Ben R found Noah but his shot whistled over the bar. Cadley nearly reduced the arrears to 4-2 when a cross from the right was met by the strikers head, however he could only watch as the ball skimmed the left hand post and went to safety. Noah nearly got his second of the day when he latched on to a Callum cross but his rasping shot thudded against the bar and to safety.
The referee blew the whistle on what was a superb performance by Bamber Bridge and one where every player was on their game. Next week it is down the road to Lostock Hall for what is always an excellent match.
